Support and Development of Kilgetty
CESG has ceased development and production of Kilgetty, the
software-based disk encryptor. This decision was taken in light
of previously made public announcements that CESG does not wish
to compete with the private sector in the development of IA
products.
Our decision also recognised that there are now a number of
alternative products available, which are capable of providing
similar levels of assurance. The availability of these products,
coupled with our stated policy, has enabled us to discontinue
support and development of the product within CESG.
It should be noted that this decision does not impact on
the evaluation status of the product. It is still accredited
as an Enhanced Grade product and may continue to be used in
accordance with the published security procedures.
In withdrawing from developing and producing Kilgetty, CESG
recognised that there was still be a future for the technology.
As a result, CESG offered for sale, a non-exclusive license
to companies involved in the production of Information Assurance
products. This license allows the production of a re-branded
version of Kilgetty, re-use of software components and permit
the company to develop the product further. Licenses were
taken up by two developers. |
