CHECK LogoThe CHECK Service Assault Course

The CHECK Service Assault Course (CSAC) is a rigorous assessment which is designed to assess IT security consultants against a skill set baseline of practical penetration testing. The CSAC is currently running in order to assess Team Members and re-assessments of Team Leaders whose Team Leader certificates have expired.

The CSAC will be structured as detailed in the Notes for Candidates issue 2.1 (pdf).

Please note that the marking of the CSAC will remain confidential to CESG.

In order for a company to achieve their ‘Green Light’ status at least one member of the CHECK team has to successfully complete the CSAC, giving them Team Leader status. A Team Leader pass is valid for 3 years and it is the CHECK Service Provider's responsibility to ensure that it is renewed, if required, by attending a CSAC for re-assessment. CESG will offer a choice of two dates, one of which must be accepted, or Team Leader status will revert to Team Member until a CSAC is successfully taken.

Please note candidates who fail the CSAC can re-apply through their company to be put back on the CSAC list for a re-sit.

The cost of a CSAC will be £1,600, VATEX

We aim to hold CSACs 5 times per month, with one course on each of the following dates:
July 21-25
August 18-22
September 22-26
October 20-24
Places are only available to current CHECK Service Members who hold a minimum of SC clearance and will be allocated according to the following order of priority:
  1. Candidates from CHECK companies who can demonstrate HMG/CNI business;
  2. Candidates from CHECK companies who do not demonstrate HMG/CNI business
Nominations to sit the CSAC should be made via the CHECK Company POC. CESG will allocate a suitable date to the candidate and the booking form should be received by CESG at least 4 weeks prior to the given CSAC date. Otherwise, the CSAC place will be offered to another candidate. Joining instructions will be issued once the completed booking form is received.

It should be noted that we will charge a cancellation fee if bookings are withdrawn or transferred without suitable substitution being made from the same organisation. The cancellation fees are as follows:
15-28 days prior to course start date the fee will be 50%
14 days to course start date the fee will be 100%

It is important that candidates are completely au-fait with the CSAC Notes for Candidates as they will be tested in depth on all of the areas covered in this document. Without the necessary preparation it is unlikely that candidates will pass the CSAC. It is therefore recommended that preparation is started as early as possible. Please Note: CESG do not provide any training for the CSAC and do not endorse any training delivered by others.
